First Student (DeKalb Facility) Bus Drivers and Aides Ratify First Contract / End 5 Day Strike
On Friday November 20, 2009 First Student employees voted overwhelmingly (54 to 31) to approve and ratify a new contract and end a five (5) day strike in which employees protested multiple Unfair Labor Practice’s committed by management.
Under the new Teamster Agreement, members will now enjoy job protection and shall enjoy improvements such as:
- Eleven percent (11%) wage increase over two (2) years (average)
- Strong Grievance Procedure which mandates progressive discipline
- Increased Life Insurance Coverage
- Increased Holiday Pay
- Re-imbursement of fees related to CDL license and medical exams
- Guaranteed Seniority
- Paid Jury Duty
- Bereavement Pay
- Drivers right of refusal to drive unsafe buses/vehicles
- Etc.
